  There is some deep truth in your comment, however simple it may seem. Joe Kennedy, a famous rich investor in the 1930's, exited the stock market in timely fashion after a shoeshine boy gave him some stock tips. He figured that when the shoeshine boys have tips, the market is too popular for its own good. In general the public consensus seems to be always one step behind after the developments on the stock market. It might actually make sense to do exactly the opposite of what everybody is advising.

    Ha, I had a co-worker make the asinine comment that "real estate only goes up!" in about 2007. I sold my property a few months later. Great timing? Naw I put the profit into the stock market just in time for 2008!
