Ask HN: Would data engineering use the JVM if Docker existed in 2000?

This is not a useful question, but for curiosity/fun. Almost all major data engineering frameworks(Hadoop, Storm, Spark, Kafka) use JVM languages, like Java and Scala. Do you think in an alternate history where docker existed in the early 2000’s, that orgs might have used different implementation languages since the need for a cross platform runtime would have been eliminated?
