It’s not that the president wants citizens to die per se. It’s just that he is incapable of understanding/comprehending the threat we are dealing with, and is also acutely sensitive to perceived threats to his own personal fortune or reputation, which are his #1 priority in every situation. This is a good reason to have people with basic quantitative competence (or at least folks willing to listen to experts with quantitative competence) and a certain amount of imagination in leadership roles.
