  This tired cliché is annoying enough when people use it in situation where it arguably has some explanatory power—a complaint about FB’s customer service, say. It adds absolutely nothing to this discussion. Facebook has an interest in retaining users that is indistinguishable here from an interest to retain customers. I struggle to come up with reasons that motivate the incessant regurgitation of memes such as this in online discussions. Sure, I chuckled the first time I saw it because it was novel and somewhat contrarian. But after the hundredth time it feels more like bad ML picking up on the wrong keywords.

  > Facebook customers are all the companies which pay Facebook for advertisement. I dont know about FB but there are companies who will sell the data of their paying customers as well.
