Public figures are still human, with families...
- crystaldev 7y agoI'll grant you the families part.

- aswanson 7y agoYeah, I have a hard time dancing on a persons grave. Unless they've done something totally evil, they should be afforded some respect. That said, hearing about Limbaugh's condition tested my ability to live by that principle.
- TulliusCicero 7y ago> Unless they've done something totally evil Well, according to a comment upthread: > In upstate New York he held back for over a decade any effort to mitigate legacy PCB pollution from GE’s mostly closed factories there. He funded AstroTurf organizations and downplayed research showing connections between PCB pollution and health problems.
- aswanson 7y agoYeah. That qualifies as evil in my book.

- mhh__ 7y agoA la David Cameron feeling merely "privileged pain" upon the death of his son
- hugi 7y agoThis is a popular excuse when horrible people are called out for what they are. "Won't someone please think of the children". Well, it's they themselves that should have thought of their families. It's not our fault when we say exactly what they were.
- ethbro 7y agoCalling out, in my book, requires an intelligent, thoughtful treatment of the behavior and subject. GP took a cheap quip at a dead man, for laughs and karma. And just because he was (by all accounts) an asshole, that flies? And doesn't just fly, but inspires righteous indignation that anyone would feel it's disrespectful? Be the change you want in the world.
- steve76 7y agoNext time the "job creators" ask for a bail out, have a month long application process without pay, and don't call them back. When enough public outcry inevitably occurs, tell them: - "Unfortunately we decided not to pursue your application at this time" - "We're just not interested." - "Look, this just isn't for you." - "No one has to teach you anything." - "You have to be onsite in India tomorrow. Board your flight this afternoon" - "If you are kidnapped in Nigeria, just follow orders. Here's your life insurance policy" Convince the family to give away the burial plot for a railroad or an assembly plant. Not for free. Make them pay you for them to do all the work. Then when you take all their money, pack up and leave town, which is now an industrial waste dump burdened with debt and high inflation. If one of them actually makes it through your nightmare, have them teach everything they know to someone from a narco state or an ethnic warzone so all that comes here, and then kick everyone to the curb. Not like hundreds of millions of people are going to get hurt. Be sure to pull a self-imposed arbitrary education technology head fake a decade out so no one ever does it again. Turn life not into a mutual endeavor for knowledge or even living well. Make it so people debase themselves and shirk responsibility, playing foul because winning is all that matters, to chase success governed by access to a glorified credit card with a hundred trillion dollar credit line.
- cle 7y agoThis is exactly GP's point.
- authoritarian 7y agoSo what?
- ianai 7y agoIf you want nice things to be said when you pass then do good things for people in your life. It’s important to be kind to all, but it’s also important to give people space to grieve.
