So is it like an extension of the way LLVM separates the "front end" from the "back end", but with many more layers of abstraction that can be mixed and matched to more easily give new languages the benefits of long-standing compiler code?
- enos_feedler 7y agoIn some ways LLVM becomes an extension of MLIR. MLIR has dialects where LLVM ops can be one of those dialects. Other sets of operations can be dialects too (like SPIR-V). This allows many more layers to exist in the ecosystem but they can't just be mixed and matched. The compilation flow still needs to be thought out carefully.
