Thank you! I can't believe how far down I had to scroll to find this. Having worked in an LP codebase, it's by far the worst workflow I've used. The academic paper angle makes a lot of sense. I wish we could just put literate programming to bed as a practical solution. However, on the bright side, we may have gotten Wolfram notebooks and Jupyter notebooks because of that. Again, you wouldn't/couldn't write a decent program with them. But they're excellent for (data) analysis, prototyping, and you can end up with a decent-ish document.
