Agreed. I'm a software developer (and I really enjoy coding; I'm an open source developer of 10 years) but I want this recession to happen so badly that I'd be prepared to work as a construction worker, gardener or laborer of any kind if that's what it takes to deal with the consequence of economic collapse because it would create a lot of opportunities for me.
At this stage, I'd vote for communism, fascism or whatever it takes to make this nightmare end.
- BoiledCabbage 7y agoYou're gonna get more then you bargained for
- captainredbeard 7y agoMaybe the nightmare wouldn’t end with your proposed solutions... in fact, maybe your personal problems aren’t related to society’s organization scheme but rather something in your decision making system. I hope you find peace.
- loh 7y agoI'm genuinely curious. What opportunities do you think an economic collapse would create for you?
- captainredbeard 7y agoChaos and violence is the primary dividend in a collapse. I’m going to guess it’s something in that vain.
- cryptica 7y agoIt's a complicated story but basically the current high market valuations within my industry are giving certain unproductive individuals and organizations a lot of power and allowing them to waste a lot of money without any consequence. If valuations collapsed, it would level the playing field and productive projects would finally be able to get attention from users and investors. My industry is severely impacted by filter bubbles so investors and customers often don't realize that much better, cheaper, more efficient solutions exist and some of these investors may even intentionally turn a blind eye because the market doesn't seem to care that the incumbents are wasting millions. The industry has become so detached from value creation that market caps seems to fluctuate randomly and not affected by any decision or any activity of market participants. My industry is quite an extreme (and obvious) case, but I feel that the rest of the economy is in a similar state. A lot of investors and users are focused on unproductive incumbents and completely missing the real innovation which is happening because of the noise that the incumbents create.
- TurkishPoptart 7y agoHow do I invest in this?
- cryptica 7y agoIt's in the blockchain space so it requires deep technical knowledge (or trustworthy social contacts with strong understanding of the space which is basically impossible to find right now with all the noise and scams) and some understanding of economics to evaluate different nascent decentralized business models. Most blockchain projects just waste money and are backed by nothing with no real strategy to generate continuous demand for their tokens. It's 99% speculation right now but investors are throwing bucket loads of money at wasteful projects simply because they're already valuable.
- nnq 7y ago> I'd vote for communism, fascism or whatever it takes to make this nightmare end Chill. You don't want to go that way. Talk to anyone in a country that experienced that... I can tell you that the way actual communism subtly broke the minds of people and twisted their thinking patterns is horrible. I takes more than a couple generations for a society to recover from that. Try to fix what you have, don't go "burn the system down" and throw the baby with the bathwater!
