If he's been there for a while and management is comfortable with him, I would just try to stay on his good side, kill him with kindness, he's probably the type just looking for a fight, I'd stay out of his cross hairs if he has the ability to wipe you out/make your work life less than tolerable. Steer clear and look for another opportunity.
