Companies think open-source drivers will reveal "special sauce" implementation details of their graphics hardware to their competitors.
- jjoonathan 7y agoNo, they think it will prove their use of bog-standard techniques to people who laid patent minefields, instantly fueling a hundred lawsuits. The USPTO is terrible at performing prior art searches and terrible at rejecting obvious claims, so there are legions of trolls waiting in the wings to jump on them if they go open source.
