I'll never understand the obsession to have one architecture to rule them all. mVC isn't dead. I set up MVC patterns all the time for small projects where I need CRUD with a sprinkling of custom code on top. It's a great pattern. If it's not meeting your needs that just means it's not a good abstraction of your problem. And yeah, you should probably look for something else.
