I wonder if the analogy "software architect" isn't being stretched too thin. What are the essential or characteristic traits of the architect as a professional and of architecture as an enterprise that translate or have direct equivalents in the software world? Are trained architects expected to be better sofware-architects than trained physicists or... chess masters?
