- xedeon 7y agoThe screen is automotive grade. The yellow discoloration has been traced back to a supplier changing the adhesive chemistry on the LCD panel to save cost. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/yellow-borders-on-main-screen-a-new-fix.137529/page-2 https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/yellow-borders-on-ma... https://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/mcu-touch-screen-yellow-border-dealer-update https://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/mcu-touch-screen-yello...
- CrazyStat 7y agoThe screen is not automotive grade [1]. If the adhesive that holds the screen together is not automotive grade then the whole unit is not automotive grade. - jungturk 7y agoSeems like they made a calculated tradeoff here to sacrifice some reliability in further-toward-the-fringe conditions (extremes of heat & humidity) in order to get some wow factor with the screen.
- threeseed 7y agoThey did make a calculated tradeoff. They also made a calculated decision not to recall the device nor properly replace the screens for those affected. Forums are littered with stories of people who suffer from the yellowing and are forced to live with it.
- CrazyStat 7y agoThe yellowing is a purely cosmetic issue. The more serious earlier problems were fixed under warranty. Lots of people have had success getting the yellowing fixed without charge after going through arbitration. I'd prefer if they would fix it under warranty, obviously, but it's not a huge deal.
- sliken 7y agoIndeed, years ago. Keep in mind the model S started in 2012!
