The Little-Known History of Palestine's First Rock Band
- squarefoot 7y agoRespect to those people for doing a dangerous thing in dangerous place for a good cause. Although I personally don't like Arabic music, as a rocker however I'd be curious to hear more of their music.
- anonu 7y ago> a dangerous thing in a dangerous place That's a bit sensationalist.
- squarefoot 7y agoI was referring to playing in a rock band in a Islamic country. Probably in the 60s it was different though.
- selimthegrim 7y agoThat’s ridiculous, Pakistan has plenty of them
- Gibbon1 7y agoFriend of mine comes from a family of loopy Christians that moved to Palestine in the 60's. She says everyone in the middle east loves a good show.
- abdelhai 7y agoIt’s not as dangerous as you might think. We do have parties and listen to music of all kinds there. From Arabic Folk to Hip Hop to Pop. Source: I grew up in Palestine.
- squarefoot 7y agoThat is good. Please accept my apologies for having been that biased; distance paired with misinformation don't help in this context.
- onyva 7y agoTheir? Always lovely to find new ways to "other" people. Their which? Levantine, Egyptian, Traditional, contemporary... "their" music stands perfectly on it's own... you're just not familiar with it. Not sure that a piece on Vice impressed with a "westernized" "Arab" music is the way to go, but my favorite Lebanese (diaspora) band is "Soapkills" (الصابون يقتل) and everything مشروع ليلى (Mashrou' Leila). https://invidio.us/watch?v=tEtlO4w_YDY&local=1&nojs=0&quality=dash&subtitles=en%2C%2C https://invidio.us/watch?v=tEtlO4w_YDY&local=1&nojs=0&qualit... https://invidio.us/watch?v=6HqHdBlQEe8&local=1&nojs=0&quality=dash&subtitles=en%2C%2C https://invidio.us/watch?v=6HqHdBlQEe8&local=1&nojs=0&qualit...
