Show HN: My wedding website open-sourced
- dangus 7y agoIt’s kind of annoying to be forced to turn off an ad blocker on a personal blog. I can’t see the project because I’m not willing to send ad revenue and analytics data your way just to see it.
- rampatra 7y agoI know it's annoying but I enabled it for some time to compensate for the website maintenance expenses. However, I assure you that there would be only one ad per page, not more. Lastly, if you know any other easy way to monetize then please do let me know.
- dangus 7y agoIsn’t it a static blog? How does that cost you any significant amount of money? Your ability to monetize your blog isn’t my problem to solve. I’m just saying that I refuse to whitelist random people’s blogs. Plenty of other ad-serving webpages just accept that a certain percentage of visitors will block ads. I’m honestly kind of shocked that a personal blog is that aggressively committed to monetization. Sure, plenty of news sites have understandably blocked me, but never a personal blog. Here you are trying to promote the spirit of open source while blocking people from seeing your work. See any irony here? You could monetize this by selling it as a hosted, open source wedding website that doesn’t collect/track personal info like The Knot or WeddingWire undoubtedly do. But instead you are turning away interested people just because they don’t want to send data to Google Analytics or look at malicious ads.

- dangus 7y agoI bet your blog had a link to this github, but I wasn’t able to see it.
