There's a difference between _not heavy when carrying_ and _as light as possible_. As a simple example, using screws instead of glue/adhesive requires more space and more weight. The same for using socketed ram. None of this would affect usability, nor would they make it ugly or too heavy to carry. There's applications to this outside of repair, as well--I would have been quite happy to pay an extra $50 for my ($200) phone to have a 6Ah battery.
