I would argue the recommendation to use the standard library in Go stems from the inability in the language for 3rd party libraries to abstract sufficiently to provide sufficient advantage to the baseline implementation. Because of the inability to abstract, reusability in Go is very low.
- marcus_holmes 7y agoYou can abstract really easily using interfaces, so I'm not sure why you think this is the cause.
- pornel 7y agoThere are lots of things that interfaces are sufficient for, but Rust libraries also have an option of using procedural macros, operator overloading, and (the beaten dead horse) generics. Rust uses these features for smaller things like faster hashmaps, custom strings (e.g. on stack, interned), iterator adapters, or custom channels. `defer` is provided via a library in Rust.
