Fundamentally this entire post is "politics", so what you broached is entirely within the purview.
And it's absolutely correct. The Republican party is deep underway on a policy of "starving the beast", rolling up $1T+ deficits during the pinnacle of the economy, when arguably it should be coming close to slaying the deficit. These are extraordinary times, and many of the people who were screaming bloody murder before about every cent of government spending suddenly have gone quiet.
The next budget is already beginning the process of dramatically reducing the few social programs the US does offer.
All of this is fascinating given that Trump promised that he would eliminate the deficit (he has exploded it, while at the same time rolling out an enormous middle-class tax hike courtesy of tariffs). He is destroying the US just enough that when the Democrats do take power they'll be between a rock and a hard place, with extraordinary little option to do anything.
But hey...space force!
- psychometry 7y agoNo informed and literate person ever thought Trump would reduce the deficit. Much like during W's presidency, it will balloon and they will leave it to the next administration to deal with. Meanwhile, Trump's cronies will enrich themselves at our expense.
