My main concern about publishing monopolies is that they are obsolete in terms of quality control. Censorship has its right to prevent abuse and so on. But I think for well established free thinkers who are far from any extremities (CGP Grey comes to me as a great example) should thrive towards federated networks. But I understand that advertising and mass media is getting more and more complicated. #ChomskyWasRight ;)
