Same here. Just went to an emergency room with a fever and was charged $700 for 5 minutes with a doctor who told me to go home and stay in bed. I have insurance and had to spend several hours on the phone to get charges reduced to 240.
- rhexs 7y agoWhy did you go to an emergency room for a fever instead of urgent care or a nurse practitioner working out of a grocery store?
- Ididntdothis 7y agoBecause I called the insurance and they told me to go to the emergency room.
- djsumdog 7y agoDid they give you a cost? That's fucking shitty they would encourage you to do something that just earns them money. I fucking hate private insurance (and I worked in it for ~3 years)
- Ididntdothis 7y agoOf course they don’t give you a cost. You are essentially signing a blank check. The hospital can charge whatever they feel like and the insurance can pay whatever share they feel like and you are in the middle trying to figure it out.
- Spooky23 7y agoAt this time of the year the urgent care will decide you have the flu, and if your BP is elevated (You have a fever, so it will) they will send you to the ER as a legal liability mitigation. If you look really bad, they'll refuse to check you in.
