I think discovered is exactly the right word. Sort of like India was discovered by Columbus, of course people were living in India before.

- pvelagal 7y ago:) Alexander, The Great, came to India in 356 BC. I get surprised when some one says "discovered India". What was discovered is a "sea route" from Europe to India by Vasco Da Gama. Columbus failed.
