- codezero 7y agoLamenting the name of a thing is a Hacker News pastime. It’s a great way to get karma without contributing substantively to the discussion, or even reading the submission. It’s often offered as if it’s good advice and the author was somehow completely unaware that other things might share the name, or that it will make SEO hard for a thing the commenter is likely to never want to search for. I used to keep bookmarks of these comments, but then that became my Hacker News pastime and instead of enjoying the submissions and celebrating creators and hackers, I found I spent more time looking for people complaining about the names of things, it was hell, and I was almost at name-rage catalog sobriety, until now.
