I'm not sure I follow - are you suggesting all countries but the US are in a state of perpetual poverty?

  I was and obviously I'm wrong (sorry). However I would think that bad times in the USA would quickly translate to bad times nearly everywhere..

    That's right. But other places are less polarized (maybe by a little bit) and maybe more peaceful.
