My experience in developing and maintaining Fossil is that the hashing speed is not a factor, unless you are checking in huge JPEGs or MP3s or something. And even then, the relative performance of the various hash algorithms is not enough to worry about.
- _verandaguy 7y agoThanks for the insight. My intuition was kind of the same, but on modern hardware computing the digest-style (as opposed to cryptographic, slow-by-design) hash is essentially imperceptible for payloads in the low MBs -- and much above that is a use case for LFS.
