This is an easy Google search, but I'll add it just in case someone hasn't done it yet. If you'd like to avoid upgrading to Catalina until you think it's ready, but still get security updates, etc., run this in your terminal:
$ sudo softwareupdate --ignore "macOS Catalina"
$ defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0
$ killall Dock
This ignores the system update, and gets rid of the red update dot.
- forthispurpose 7y agoHow do I roll it back?
- kevan 7y ago$ sudo softwareupdate --reset-ignored That will clear all ignored updates. From the CLI docs it doesn't look like there's a way to do it individually but there's probably a plist somewhere you could modify.
- forthispurpose 7y agothank you
- dolguldur 7y agodon't `killall Dock` if you have lots of minimized windows
- mnm1 7y agoThe dot comes back after a minor update. But it doesn't show Catalina anymore. Just the dot. Running this makes it go away. Until software update is started again. It's like the option to install software from anywhere. That goes away too after an update. It seems to be Apple's way of fucking with power users who dare do things that it doesn't want them to do. Or maybe it's just another bug in the sea of bugs that is MacOS. Hard to say.
