I really hope the background compatibility is idiot-proof. Because it's really been great. My Roland EP-9 from the mid-90s is easily the oldest device I have that I can connect to my iPad and have it just work with modern software. (Granted, a dongle or two is involved...) And it's worked with every computer I've cared to connect it to in years prior. That strikes me as a sign of a standard well-done.
