I can't say I share the feelings that PG is describing. I don't really mind being a noob at something I see as useful to learn. The feeling that I get in that case is a drive to find out what is up with that thing. In programming it is not always clear, though, that the new thing is that great or even that it should exist in the first place. This makes me then feel not to great. But it is more of a feeling of irritation at the thing that I suspect of not needing to exist.
