Huh. I wonder if you setting up a board game might be an easier unstructured problem. If you've got experience with board games, you can usually figure out most of the rules by just looking at the pieces; where do the same symbols appear, and what other symbols appear with them? Still sounds super hard, but might be easier than the same (matching corresponding shapes) in 3D.
