They do and/or used to, but they've been systematically shut down as people OD on heroin inside of them. There have been attempts at mitigating this, like laying attendants to stand there constantly, but no one has quite solved the problem.
- pstuart 7y agoYes, that's an ongoing issue for enclosed bathrooms. A pissoir only has a privacy screen for the elimination but is otherwise exposed and not suitable for shooting up. It doesn't address the other bathroom needs but it could be a part of the solution. And it looks like there is exactly one in the city, and (of course) it's not without controversy: https://sfist.com/2016/01/31/sfs_first_open-air_urinal_makes_nat/ https://sfist.com/2016/01/31/sfs_first_open-air_urinal_makes...
- wutbrodo 7y agoAh my mistake, I didn't realize that the term pissoir specifically refers to unenclosed urinals. Actually, I don't think the one you refer to exists anymore : / (I live right near the park). Predictably, SF city politics is more about a subpopulation of loud lunatics' kneejerk emotional reactions than actually improving quality of life for its citizens.
