I feel this broadly reflects what social media has introduced: the mass creation and proliferation of knowledge. Data, theories, heuristics, schools of thought - sometimes convergent, sometimes divergent. But without "canonical" sources like we used to have (even if they weren't perfectly accurate), it makes it much harder to ascertain the quality of any particular source of information. Federated knowledge is great for innovation, but less so for learning.
