This is definitely because of paid questions - if you take a look at the most revenue generating questions they are all pretty dumb - I spent some time trying to think of some good questions to see whether it was possible to make money, but soon realised I couldn't bring myself to participate in such stupidity - if a good question is worth nothing from a financial perspective, why bother? They need to start incentivising answers in someway soon otherwise it's going to go even further downhill.
