I just finished David Epstein's 'Range' last night, and one of his admonitions in the conclusion seemed pertinent:
> "Don't feel behind. ...Compare yourself to yourself yesterday, not to younger people who aren't you. Everyone progresses at a different rate, so don't let anyone else [including you] make you feel behind. You probably don't even know where exactly you're going, so feeling behind doesn't help."
He also notes a number of athletes and musicians who started "late", including Steve Nash and Sviatoslav Richter.
- rumanator 7y agoApparently Steve Nash started playing at 12yo. That hardly passes off as starting late.
- LeonB 7y agoCompared to the Tiger Woods' school of thought where you put a golf club in the hands on an infant it's very late.

- JohnFen 7y agoThe person I keep in mind on this topic of "it's never too late" is Colonel Sanders. At the age of 65, he was destitute and living in his car. Then he started Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's never too late.
