That's fair - last time i used C++ in earnest was around 2007. Unless they broke compatibility, it would still be opt-in, though, right? Nice thing about Rust is that the resource management approach is built-in and enforced by default.
- ncmncm 7y agoEverything in C++ is opt-in. The Standard C++ Library supports user-managed allocators for all the containers, heavily used in embedded, low-latency, and real-time applications to get deterministic performance. Lack of standard support for user-provided allocators indicates immaturity. E.g., C++ lacked them until 2011.
