That’s not entirely comparable though, I think. You’re talking about a complete change of domain (systems programming to webdev). The technology is bound to be different. And so there is a question of causality: are you changing domain because of the technology? Or are you changing technology because of the domain? As a side note, nowadays you might not need to reboot every time for kernel development due to techniques like ksplice? Though you obviously still need to recompile.
