- corporate_shi11 7y ago"progress" Is that why net immigration to Texas is positive? On what quality of life metrics does Texas rank poorly?
- todd8 7y agoTexas is a really big and diverse state. There are very large remote areas, for example, with poor access to medical care and the schools in some areas may not be up to national averages. However, I presume that you will not be choosing to move to a rural county. Houston has the worlds largest medical center and the neighborhood where I live has some of the best public schools in the country. The web sites and newspapers that rank cities do so by using some sort of strange linear combination of factors, like so many points for having four distinct seasons and so many points for having professional sports teams and so many negative points for having more police per capita, etc. I think that the best way to judge location attractiveness is to look at how people vote with their feet. The states that have a net gain in population have been judged to be better places to live.
- lotsofpulp 7y ago> The states that have a net gain in population have been judged to be better places to live. It depends how wealthy you are. If you make enough money to afford all the niceties of CA, then you won’t see a reason to move to TX.
- bnjms 7y agoDefine regressive and progressive. I see these terms used all the time but I've never seen a description that matched the words.
- lotsofpulp 7y agoNo parental leave, assisted suicide, sick leave, non competes are allowed, their schools leaders are religious and backwards, still fighting abortion rights, illegal marijuana, etc.
- GhettoChild 7y agoUnless those issues affect a person directly then they don't care.
- lotsofpulp 7y agoSome people care about the welfare of others. I believe society is better if mothers and fathers are given time to care for a newborn, and beyond with sick days. And I don’t know anyone who isn’t affected by assisted suicide seeing as how no one has figured out how to escape diseases such as Alzheimer’s or dementia or cancer.
- refurb 7y agoSo progressive means "things I like" and regressive is "things I don't like"?
- lotsofpulp 7y agoGenerally, it means things that give more people a better quality of life. Black people getting civil rights, women’s suffrage, abortion rights, gay rights, were all considered progressive as far as I know.
