  Unless I’m missing something, the last 20 years seems to have more snow than the 20 years proceeding it with the exception of heavy snow in the mid-80s.

    Yep, I meant fewer heavy snowfalls and also 4 instances of no/almost no snow until January in last 15 years. It aligns pretty well with my personal experience in south-west Poland. It's been several years in a row with no snow for Christmas/until new year. OTOH when I was a kid, I remember being stuck on a road on our way to my grandma's place for Christmas due to massive snowfall.
