Comedians Are Not Philosophers
- 5555624 7y agoWhy not? They can be. It's not like there is a professional organization licensing philosophers. They offer views on all sorts of stuff, which is what philosophers do. That does not mean they aren't telling jokes, using satire to get laughs, etc. The author's last paragraph is on the mark, where he says we should not blindly trust anyone -- not just comedians, but actors, politicians, etc. -- and should think for ourselves.
- brodouevencode 7y agoMaybe, maybe not. I would say that there are some comedians out there that rightfully and righteously toe the line. They need to because the rest of Hollywood is in a toxic circlejerk of their own design and, to Gervais's point, less educated than 16 year old activists. Maybe comedians should be considered philosopher-adjacent. (EDIT: typo)
