I agree with this post. This mentality is the reason I chose the most compatible and time-proven formats as the base of my project: Text files, and PGP. For glue, I chose SQLite, Perl, and HTML. For a simulation of the first 20+ years of use, I made it compatible with older browsers: Mosaic 1.0 for now, and I plan to test on older platforms in the future.
