The job market is still looking for a way to separate ideal candidates from the general population.
The economy spends a lot of time dealing with unvetted untalented people that “need a chance“ to perform as much as someone that is unvetted but talented.
It doesn't have to be college, but there isnt another system so robust and bussing as many people throught it. Sure corporations can try apprenticeship programs but that will take a decade for it to be broad enough.
