It's important for developers to understand that programming is at least as much about expressing yourself clearly with language, as it is about maths and compsci views of functions. Language that's more verbose, but also adds clarity, is a good thing. If I had an instruction book on building a cabinet, it wouldn't help to re-list every screw, tool, and their sizes on every single step if I could put a parts list at the front. But it also wouldn't help to collapse every matching group of steps with one or two different parameters together.
