The biggest racket that the major car companies ever pulled was tying someones identity to the car they drove.
- Fjolsvith 7y agoYears ago my dad was shopping around for a used car and was looking at a Cadillac sedan on a lot. The salesman knew him and came out and told dad that he couldn't afford a Cadillac. Dad told him that a $6000 Cadillac costs just as much as a $6000 Ford and then went and bought a Cadillac at another dealership.
- kryogen1c 7y agoWhat a strange comment. Of course your car isn't casually related to who you are, but it is definitely correlated - it can't not be!
- rland 7y agoI get the sense that a lot of auto marketers are chasing after a causal "you buy the car" -> "you become [x]." It doesn't work on most, but it definitely works on some. Look at any forum for a particular car and you'll find em.
- taurath 7y agoIt’s not that much of a racket to say that the 2nd most expensive thing a person will likely buy in their lives outside of a home should match the personality of the buyer. I mean, cmon.
