For example, one call center I worked in prohibited any kind of reading or talking to others while waiting for a call. You were just supposed to sit there. Sometimes for hours. Staring forward. Waiting. Oh, I and I do mean sit there. You weren't supposed to stand, either. No pacing at your desk or even just standing still. You were supposed to remain seated, whether on a call or not.
