Actually, an autopilot landing requires CATIII ground equipment...but that could be easier to set up in a simulation. But that is the nature of testing in multivariate conditions: e.g. if the bug triggers only when the heading is exactly 270.0000, I could see why a testing suite wouldn't catch it.
