I have lived and traveled in China as well. You are trying to explain Chinese deficiencies with exceptions. For every exception you state, there are plenty more conflicting cases that are extremely under-reported or completely withheld from even Chinese local media, let alone to foreign press. There are plenty of people that are being jailed and publicly forced to admit guilt for crimes they did not commit. There are people (including high profile people) that are kidnapped, tortured, killed. There is a complete bribe system to get general care in the hospital. Sure, I agree that the lives of the average Chinese has improved in relative terms but the way in which it is received is at the cost of the true potential of the nation. Tell me when regular citizens have access to the full internet and the uncensored thoughts and ideas of the free world. Until then, China is just an experiment of Plato's Allegory of the Cave and a richer version of North Korea.
