we don't have a master key :) only users have encryption keys for their data and only they decide with whom they want to share. BTW, I totally agree about transparency. We will opensource Anytype before the public release so anyone can inspect and build from sources

How do you plan to make money if it's IPFS and open source?

  some percentage of users will need a backup. While some technical users will configure something for themselves, for others it will be more convenient just to pay for backup from anytype
