Ask HN: Is it too late to reverse the data fragmentation in the cloud and web?
I feel that I'm constantly moving data between various platforms and my devices and it makes it impossible for me to reliably find what I saved or shared because there are so many places I could have seen it, created it, or sent it. For example, I will frequently use Facebook Messenger to send myself links from my computer to my phone so that I can then forward to my family via SMS which is obviously a clunky experience. Or while at work, I constantly have to search information I know exists but can't remember whether was in a Google Doc, a website, or an email. There doesn't seem to be a platform or service that can be my go to for sharing and using my data like photos, links, notes, etc except maybe Facebook which is less than ideal for the obvious data privacy reasons. Is there any hope for the future or is this only going to get worse?
