Airbnb analyses social media to root out people with 'narcissism or psychopathy'
- joshuaissac 7y agoLink is 404ing for me. Alternative link: https://www.businessinsider.de/international/airbnb-software-predicts-if-guests-are-psychopaths-patent-2020-1/ https://www.businessinsider.de/international/airbnb-software...
- onetimemanytime 7y agoweird, AFAIK I cut and pasted...but stuff happens. Maybe @dang can fix it?
- floatingatoll 7y agoIf you email the Contact link in the footer, they'll fix it. @dang said previously that '@dang' doesn't have any effect (there's no notification or tracking of it).
- Jamwinner 7y agoAssuming you were diagnosed with either, why is your right to lodging now gone? I smell a fat ADA suit brewing.
- j45 7y agoThe article focuses on hosts as well as guests - specifically identifying hosts who would be problematic or are scamming AirBNB
- randyrand 7y agoBeing a bad host or tenant scares people from the market, taking away housing from others.
- oarabbus_ 7y agoThis claim was also used as a justification to exclude certain ethnicities from being able to purchase homes in particular neighborhoods.
- nefitty 7y agoYou're comparing ethnicity and psychopathy.
- romwell 7y agoThat's why we have ratings: to see which hosts or tenants are bad. Only other people can decide that. We don't need none of that minority report preemptive bullshit.
- jameslk 7y agoNeither narcissism nor psychopathy are disabilities so ADA does not apply.
- zozbot234 7y agoWell, it's more that the ADA (and related regulations) specifically excludes conditions resulting in "antisocial" behavior from coverage under the Act. Narcissism and psychopathy would be in the same boat as, say, kleptomania.
- evgen 7y agoYour 'right to lodging'? Did you just make this up out of thin air? What is it that drives people to assume that they have a right to whatever it is they happen to desire?

- agra 7y agoAirbnb sells customer records. Unclear whether this occurs in real time or on a lag. Do they vet their data customers in this manner? https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/business/secret-consumer-score-access.html https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/04/business/secret-consumer-...
- vanusa 7y agoThank you, Airbnb, for bringing us one step close to de-facto establishment of this in our society: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System
- 6510 7y agoDid I detect sarcasm?
- tasssko 7y agoRight out of Silicon Valley. Way to go team Airbnb!
- Nextgrid 7y agoWith Airbnb and similar “move fast and break things” scum it’s always the others that are bad, but never themselves, not even if their screwups cause people to get stranded or stuck with unlivable accommodation and no refunds.
- pentae 7y agoOr they could, you know, fix their review system.
- rvz 7y agoOh dear, looks like finding and hosting a house-party now is going to be more like nineteen-eighty-four.
