[PSA] There is one standard date format.
It is called ISO 8601 and looks like 2020-01-04. Use it. It's very good. If you write 4.1.2020 or 1/4/2020, you're wrong. Those are both bad, as are many others.
- Symbiote 7y ago4.1.2020 is at least less bad than the topsy-turvey 1/4/2020. :-)
- t-writescode 7y agoNot when you’re serving American customers for their rent and you say that rent is due 2/1/2020. This happened to me and I was very, very confused and in a bad way. When it’s 1/2, next month, I might think I’m a month late!
- ksec 7y agoWhich is the Reason Why I always use Letters for Month. Then there is no confusion. It doesn't matter if you write 01 Jan 2020, or Jan 01 2020. It is always clear. Although I argued the first is still clearer. In the age of Internet we have American companies writing in all numbers and it is a heck of problem in communication when the rest of the world dont have it the same orders.
- wodenokoto 7y agoNo there isn't and no it doesn't. ISO 8601 looks like all kinds of things. - 2020-W01 - 2020-004 - --01-04 are all valid ISO 8601 dates. The spec is huge and not freely available (75 pages, costs around 200usd [2]). - iamthirsty 7y agoIf you think the way a majority of humans does something is absolute wrong and your uncommon standard is the only right way, you're wrong.
- 08-15 7y agoIf a majority of humans would agree on a date format, I might agree with you. But they don't.
- m-p-3 7y agoAnd it's easily sortable, another big bonus.
