- rattray 7y agoI think many economists would argue it'd have gone _up_ rather than down due to the counterintuitive nature of capitalism. In any case, many economists argue over this question :)
- kortilla 7y agoNot much. The thing about inequality is that it makes the top more powerful politically. The amount of money held by the top 0.1 percent is irrelevant to moving the income/wealth needle for the rest of the population. There is a reason those who don’t like inequality had to come up with new measurements to highlight it. There is little impact on the mean, median, and mode if the rich get richer.
- dash2 7y agoHasn't Chile done much better than its Latin American peers? I suppose it would be unfair to mention Venezuela, but how about Brazil?
- rodolphoarruda 7y agoChile is much better when compared to Brazil in terms of equality. Brazil is ranked 8 most unequal (tied with Botsuwana) whereas Chile holds the 26th position in the GINI index [1]. We can expect Chile to drop positions since its economy is going downhill creating massive unemployment. Inequality will increase as people from lower middle class will move into poverty as we've seen in Brazil since 2015.
