Strongly disagree. I am very allergic to smoke, cigarette smoke in particular. Its not just the smoker that's being affected. I've had numerous run ins with HR about second hand smoke on the job and how it affects my health. I wish my company had a policy like this.
- ggreer 7y agoThis is a no nicotine policy, not a no smoking policy. It bans vaping, gum, patches, and lozenges. It bans employees from using them even if they are never used at work. The employee simply has to test positive for nicotine.
- somehnguy 7y agoFirst, if you have legitimate health problems when exposed to smoke..sorry, that sucks. But my anecdotal experience in almost every case of being around people who claim to be highly sensitive or allergic to minor things like smoke or perfumes they're highly dramatic. I know a few people who claim to be highly allergic to vape 'smoke'. Yet people vape around them all the time and they don't seem to be affected until they physically see them do it. Then magically their ailment is a huge deal. Again, sorry if that isn't the case with you. Just my experience. Regardless, this policy is wack.
- monocasa 7y agoThey've banned smoking on the job for years now. This is now banning nicotine use off the job as well.
- AlgorithmicTime 7y agoBanning people from smoking at work seems fine. Banning them from smoking when not on the job seems tyrannical.
- zeveb 7y ago> I am very allergic to smoke, cigarette smoke in particular. That's highly unlikely, as tobacco smoke is not an allergen: https://www.healthline.com/health/allergic-to-cigarette-smoke#symptoms https://www.healthline.com/health/allergic-to-cigarette-smok... Rather, you dislike tobacco smoke. That's fine: we all dislike many things. I, for example, hate rap music and the smell of eggs. Unlike you, however, I do not support banning the things I dislike.
- loco5niner 7y agoWow, you really picked the wrong link to support your claim. The entire article is filled with statements that refute your claim, such as the following: > Allergy-like symptoms can be caused by tobacco smoke, but most doctors believe that they are not reactions to the smoke. > Rather, because tobacco products (especially cigarettes) are filled with many toxic ingredients and irritating chemicals, some people have a reaction to those specific substances. People who suffer from allergic rhinitis appear to be more sensitive to these chemicals than others.
- snarfy 7y agoI have the same problem with perfume, cologne, and hairspray. Even more of a problem with automobile exhaust. I don't complain to HR though.
